In a period before embalming its likely to smell, and even today some places dont require embalming practices amd without proper ventalation they are likely to smell. Like the shelved corpses, they were likely not embalmed, no exhaust to expell the odor and in a small confines they will liquify and drip down onto coffins below them and e en possibly onto the flooring. It is funny the practices of yesterday compaired to today its just amazing the differences. Most laws allow for green burials which mean no preservation practices are required for burials. This will produce odor. I dont know anything about Irish law so I'm guessing that they allow green burials. Some states (maybe all by now, I'm not sure) in the US allow green burials. Im certain there must be some form of coverings or shrouding left on the decedant for decency, which might explain the garments you seen on the remains placed on shelves verses in coffins. None the less its ma abe and fascinating.

You already know certain mausoleums will decay fast, thede have been long erected. I have be in contact to smell or walk inside any in my life time. Like someone mentioned you need to carry a mask to avoid the stench. Never try going there ehen your experience nasal problems. Perhaps next time carry a small jar of menthol or vicks and put a dab under your nostrils. You'll be glad you did, heard this from a friend of years ago who was a police officer. When they found out a body was decomposing they reach in their pocket for that jar as the smell was very bad.

Oh wow, I love this video I feel I'm walking along side of you as if your leading a group As you give description of these that pasted away tuck in this cemetery. I'm wondering why they stopped the maintenance is it lack of funds. So terrible that it's not upkept. I repeat myself reason why I don't want to be buried cause no one will care. My wishes to be cremated and scatter my ashes free to the winds near my parents is all I ask. So I can wander the night and be among some interesting and happy spirits. Thank you again for this journey with you and love you as your giving a description of many long ago.

what is upsetting is you say this a cemetery that is still *in use* and you can tell by the newer headstones. I guess it takes *too* much effort by the church itself to actually *pick up* those fallen over head stones and actually give a **** . Its not like this is an abandoned cemetery for God's sake. *Shame on them* .

In the US, there are some massive Masonic mausoleums that are very impressive (although some have gone into terrible disrepair). I'd be fascinated to see a tour of any in the UK or Ireland.

These old churches left to rot away is so sad. It seems to me that if a church has failed, The building should be given to someone. These historic buildings should not be left to rot away. So very sad. If the church was given to a person/family for free it would be kept up most likely.
